In the year 1637 the President of the Kingdom Don Luigi Moncada Duca di Montalto ordered the afrescoes in the vault to the most qualified artist of that time (Vincenzo la Barbera, Giuseppe Costantino, Pietro Novelli and Gerardo Astorino), transforming the ancient deposit for the ammunition in to a hall for the summer meetings of the Parlamento Siciliano. This great hall suffered another modification after 1798, when under the orders of Ferdinando di Borbone becomes home to the stables. Among the survived afrescoes , by Novelli, Pietro Moncada (ancestor to the Duca di Montalto).
